Patch 0.1.4 — achievements, and a clearer raid
The one real decision this week was a small one with a long shadow.
The StG 44 and the MG 42 used to be craftable. You could gather the parts, stand at the bench in your bunker, and build the two best automatic weapons in the game on your own schedule. This week we took both off the bench. They are loot now — found in a raid, on a body or in a crate, or not found at all.
The reasoning is the loop. Blood of Rations is an extraction shooter, and the whole tension is that good gear has to be carried out alive — anything you carry in, you can lose. A weapon you can craft on demand has no weight in that math. It is a recipe and a wait, not a risk. The moment the best rifle becomes a guaranteed build, the safest way to play is to never fight for one, and the map empties out. Make it loot-only and the math changes — the StG 44 a stranger is carrying is worth taking, and the one in the crate at the far end of the airfield is worth the walk. Scarcity is what turns a gun into a reason to move.
It costs us something. Crafting was a clean, legible reward, and some players will miss building toward a known goal. We think the trade is right — the best weapons should be a story about a raid, not a checklist at home. The bunker still has plenty to build.
That was the week’s one decision. The rest of Patch 0.1.4 is a milestone and a readability pass — the achievement set comes online, and the raid gets easier to read at a glance.
New
- Forty achievements. The full set is live and wired to Steam — extraction milestones, combat, the trader, the bunker, and a handful of hidden ones. Each has its own art in the game’s low-poly style, and a locked achievement shows greyed out until you earn it.
- Pockets. Two always-on pocket slots now sit on every inventory screen — room for the small things you keep on you, pack or no pack.
- Load ammo mid-raid. Drag a stack of rounds onto a weapon, or right-click, to load it without leaving the raid.
- Remap your controls. Settings has a controls list where you can rebind keys, with conflict detection and a reset to defaults.
- A branded open. The game now opens on its own splash screen and ships with its own icon.
Changes
- The extraction marker is signal smoke now. The green beam is gone. Your extraction point reads as a thick column of light-blue signal smoke — easier to find from a distance, and true to 1944.
- A bigger, steadier HUD. The in-raid HUD is about 15% larger and scales to screen height, so it reads the same on every aspect ratio. The stamina bar sits clear of the weapon hotbar.
- Weapon readout. Your equipped weapon shows as a white silhouette with a soft glow that reads its rarity.
- Loot clusters where people lived. Loot now concentrates in the built-up parts of the map and thins out in the forest — a building is worth the risk, the tree line is cover.
- The strongest automatics are loot-only. The two best automatic weapons can no longer be crafted — they are found in a raid or not at all.
- Field reports. The documents on the main menu now have a distinct card per type.
Fixes
- The end-of-raid recap now credits the right weapon for a kill.
- Items with even-sized footprints snap to the correct cell.
- The drop preview no longer shows through items already inside a container.
- Ammo readouts no longer flash a false empty.
- Removed a duplicate extraction point and a few loot markers that sat in unreachable spots.
- Your pockets render even when you carry no pack.
Known issues
- Achievements are freshly wired and still being tuned ahead of Early Access.
- Loot distribution on the map is still being balanced.
- A few screens are ahead of their final art. The polish lands when the assets do.
New here? Blood of Rations is a WW2 extraction shooter — solo PvPvE raids in 1944 occupied Europe, Early Access on Steam 5 November 2026. If this is your kind of game, wishlist it on Steam. It is still the number that matters.
