Patch 0.1.8 — no place to get stuck
There is a death in an extraction shooter that nothing prepares you for. You are not outplayed and you are not outshot. You walk into a coil of barbed wire and your soldier stops. You can still turn, still raise the rifle, still open the crate in front of you — you cannot take a step, and you are not going to take one again. A deserter finds you a minute later and leaves with everything you carried in.
That was us, in our own raids, more than once. The cause was not the movement code. It was the shape of the props. A prop’s collision was taken from the shape of its model, so an open coil of wire collided as a sealed slab and a hollow tank trap collided as a solid block. You walked into space you could see straight through and ended up inside a closed volume — and a body inside a wall has no free direction to move toward, including the one it came from.
So we changed the shapes. The props across the airfield — wire, hedgehogs, tank traps, crate stacks — now collide as plain boxes that sit where you can see them, about two thousand of them in place of the model hulls. Underneath that, movement now recognizes a body that has ended up inside geometry and keeps your input live while it works you back out, instead of holding you still until something kills you. We walked twenty-three lanes across the map afterwards. Every trap we knew about let go.
New
- Raids run on dedicated servers. A raid is now hosted by a server we run rather than by one of the players in it. Quick match seats players onto the same server instead of opening one per player.
- Sign in with Steam. The game authenticates through your Steam account.
- A refused pickup says so. Reaching for ground loot you have no room for now shows “Not enough space in inventory” and plays a dull thud, instead of doing nothing at all.
Changes
- Kits and achievement rewards come from the server. A new account’s opening kit, and the items behind achievements, are granted server-side.
Fixes
- Players could be immobilised permanently inside barbed wire, crate piles and tank traps — able to look, shoot and loot, but never to move again.
- A face too steep to stand on now slides you off it, rather than reducing you to a crawl along the slope.
- Loot could not be picked up at all in a raid hosted on a server. No prompt appeared and the pickup key did nothing.
- A deserter shooting at you in a networked raid was silent and invisible. Its shots now register — the hit direction, the sound, the tracer.
- Joining a raid on a dedicated server could deploy you without the kit your menu showed. Each player now deploys with their own stored loadout.
- A deploy that never reached a server used to settle as missing in action and take your gear with it. It now aborts before the raid starts and leaves your kit untouched.
- A brand-new account could end up with no starter kit at all.
- A rejected drag in the inventory made no sound. It plays the same refusal cue as a failed pickup, and a quick-equip into a slot that cannot take the item now says so specifically.
Known issues
- Dedicated servers are running in a single region while we test.
- Deserter numbers and behavior are still being balanced raid to raid.
