Patch 0.1.6 — the enemy wakes up
For a few weeks now, deserters have wandered every raid on the airfield. Quiet looters picking over crates, armed patrols holding ground. They were on the map — but they were closer to scenery than threat. A patrol would drift past and leave you be, and the PvE half of PvPvE stayed quiet.
This week they woke up. A patrol will spot you across the field, close the distance, and open fire — in a solo raid and in a hosted one alike. When one shoots, you see it: a muzzle flash at the barrel and a tracer chasing the round, hot when it lands on you, a whistle when it misses, stopped at the wall when cover catches it. Get careless and a deserter will put you down and leave a body for the next soldier to loot.
And the raid has a voice now. Deserters give themselves away — footsteps matched to the surface underfoot, a muttered word, a bark when they see you, a cry when they fall. Grenades pull, bounce, and boom. The airfield hums with its own ambience, and the clock has a sound: an artillery bed rises in the last five minutes, a shell whistles at the final minute, and a stopwatch counts down your extraction. No music, no pings — every sound has a source, and your headset is still your radar.
New
- Enemy fire you can see. When a deserter shoots, a muzzle flash marks the barrel and a tracer follows the round — hits land on the target, misses whistle past, and a round caught by cover stops at the cover.
- An in-raid escape menu. Press escape during a raid for a menu that lets you forfeit and head back to the bunker.
Changes
- The enemy holds up its end now. Deserter patrols acquire you, close in, and fire — solo or hosted — and a kill leaves a body to loot.
- The raid has sound. Enemies, weapons, and grenades all carry their own audio now, and the airfield holds its own ambience. Still no music, still no pings.
- A raid clock you can hear. An artillery bed rises in the last five minutes, a shell whistles at the final minute, and the extraction runs on a stopwatch tick.
- Every item has its own handling sound. All eighty-plus items pick up and drop with their own foley.
- An art pass on the raid screens. The in-raid inventory and looting screens now wear the stash’s skin, with a themed plate for each crate.
- Tooltips on the menu buttons. The main-menu and trader-screen buttons show a tooltip on hover, over a clearer translucent backdrop.
Fixes
- Leaning right no longer collides with the interact key — it moved to its own binding.
- A finished quest could hide its claim button behind a stale local setting. The button now shows when the reward is ready.
Known issues
- The new soundscape is still being balanced — some cues are louder or quieter than they will ship.
- Deserter numbers and behavior are still being tuned raid to raid.
- A few screens are ahead of their final art. The polish lands when the assets do.
